Fire Safety Education

Through Community support, the dedication of The Fire Chief, The Fire District Board, The Mantua-Shalersville Firefighters' Association and the members of The Mantua-Shalersville Fire Department; The Fire Prevention Bureau’s Fire Safety Education Program has been in operation for over 20 years.

The Fire Safety Education Program visits over 300 children in grades K through fourth, along with pre-school children in day care centers in the Crestwood School District.

Age appropriate materials are introduced to each classroom along with hands on activities such as STOP-DROP and ROLL, if clothing should catch on fire, for pre-school and kindergarten children.

A crawl under smoke simulator for second graders, a special video and hands on presentation to the forth graders about what fire would do to your home and belongings. And a special treat for the first and third graders.

A SMOKE TRAILER is brought to each school where students are taught home safety tips and techniques, along with a "HOW TO ESCAPE" session that gives students a chance to experience how smoke would behave in their home if it were to catch on fire.

The ongoing commitment of education does not stop with the elementary schools. The Prevention Bureau utilizes the Inspection and Education branches as a whole to educate homeowners through home inspections and a Home Smoke Detector installation program.

With the continued support of all that have been involved in the past, The Prevention Bureau hopes to expand its teaching and education of our communities in the future.

The entire Fire Force works hard on a daily basis to encourage ongoing FIRE SAFETY in our communities.
